I recently attended a workshop in which we were asked to pick words that would best describe our personal photographic style. I thought that by sharing this exercise, it would be a great way to highlight how I approach wedding photography.
My first word was "Real". I graduated from the University of Texas with a photojournalism degree and while I enjoyed editorial work, I found my niche when I started photographing weddings. My training is in finding "the moment" and weddings are full of wonderful moments.
I picked "Modern" as my second word. Using digital technology, creativity can be boundless. I love using direct sunlight to light a veil or how amibient light can set a scene. I love window light that just lights one thing. For the most part, if the sun is somewhere in the sky, I'll try hard to use it before breaking out artificial light.
"Classic" sounds like it's in opposition to "Modern" but it would be my third word because while I use modern technology, I want to create images that stand the test of time.
Finally, "Fun" had to be in there because that is a huge part of the process. I strive to put my clients at ease and help them enjoy it all.
